Build to Get Business or Get Business and Build?

Defensive Entrepreneurs would be well served to get the business, then build their business around the business.

Let me explain, many people think that they are building a business by:

  • Buying equipment and furniture
  • Getting fancy stationary
  • Spending money on the "nice-to-haves"

They have the structure, but they don't have a business . . .

The difference is that real Defensive Entrepreneurs start on a shoestring.  They line up contracts or identify a reachable market they can tap.  Nothing happens until someone buys something.

The best example I can think of was Aristotle Onassis.  He would get a viable contract for business, then he would start the business and go to the bank and get the financing to "build" the business.

I have done this myself and recommended it before.  So get the business, then build it!
